How to Reconnect with What You Truly Want from Work and Life

Have you ever found yourself asking, Is this really what I want?

Not just in work, but in life?

I had this realisation during matrescence - the slow, messy, and deeply transformative process of becoming a mother. It wasn’t just about having a baby. It was about my entire identity shifting - who I was, what I valued, and how I saw myself in the world.

I had changed. But I hadn’t yet figured out who I was becoming.

For a while, I carried on as I always had, thinking I could slot my old self into my new life. But eventually, I had to face the truth: what I wanted had changed, and I needed to give myself permission to figure out what came next.

That’s why I completely rebranded my business after becoming a mother.

I originally coached women through burnout and career transitions, something I was deeply passionate about. But as I navigated my own transition into motherhood, my focus shifted. I realised what truly called to me was helping mothers navigate their own personal growth alongside motherhood - because our ambitions, desires, and purpose evolve too.

And here’s what I want you to know:

  • It’s okay if what you want now is different from what you wanted before. Sometimes, we need to start with a blank space.

So if you’re feeling stuck or disconnected, here’s how to start finding your way back.

1. Strip away the ‘shoulds’ and start fresh

When was the last time you let yourself dream about the future without pressure or expectations?

So often, we try to figure out what we want while carrying old beliefs about what we should do, who we should be, or what once made sense for us. But what if you gave yourself permission to start with a blank space?

Instead of asking, What do I want now?, try asking:

→ What excites me?

→ What am I curious about?

→ What lights me up?

These questions open the door to possibilities rather than pressure.

2. Reflect on what has changed - and what still feels true

Motherhood shifts so much of who we are. Some dreams may no longer fit. Others may feel even stronger. And sometimes, we discover new desires we never expected.

Take a moment to reflect:

  • What used to light you up before life got so busy?

  • What parts of that still feel true for you?

  • What’s something new you feel drawn to but haven’t explored yet?

This is about reconnecting with who you are now - not who you used to be.

3. Create space to hear yourself again

One of the most powerful things I did was create space for myself, just me, a notebook, and my thoughts. At first, I wasn’t even sure what I was looking for. But over time, patterns emerged. Ideas I had buried came back. I started to see glimpses of what I wanted next.

If you’re feeling unsure, start with space. Step away from the noise, even just for 10 minutes. Journal, walk, sit in silence - do whatever helps you listen to yourself.

Because here’s the truth:

💡 You don’t have to have it all figured out right now. You just have to start listening.

What’s next for you?

If you’re feeling disconnected from what you truly want, you’re not alone. You’re allowed to evolve. You’re allowed to want more. You’re allowed to create a life that excites you.

So this week, I invite you to give yourself space to dream. Start fresh. Be open. Let yourself explore what excites you - without expectation or pressure.

And if something comes up for you, I’d love to hear from you: Because your dreams still matter. ✨
